Realm of Yolmi
A 1977 Scientific/Fantasy Game of Lasers, Starships, and Giant Flies
Throughout Man's time on Earth, life has been very happy. Generally, that is. But Man's curiosity and his love of the unknown led him to create abnormal diseases, make strange automations, and experiment with the very essence of Life itself. Needless to say, time and time again, Man invented horrors which terrorized the Earth. Once it was a 200-foot robot with "Displacement Rays" who decided "Exterminate all." But even it was destroyed by Man.
Still, even with these interruptions, life was fun and a new energy was found, so no one wanted for food or other such things. Even the news reflected this attitude, for it was a "happy" format. The news was good, and the people liked it. This method of news lacked one big element, namely "World Security." During one of those happy and carefree years, four scientists noticed a gas made of unknown elements traveling toward the Earth. No news center would accept this for publication because they wanted to keep their ratings up. The scientists became furious because no one listened and they made strange gestures; but this did not stop the oncoming gas.
The gas finally hit and killed many living things. It caused cellular deterioration. The worst was yet to come for the gas reacted with the Earth's atmosphere and turned the still living animals into fierce and mutated beings that traveled in destructive packs. Many men turned semi-barbaric and the automations went rampant. Some humans developed into mutants or non-humans; neither human nor beast, and a leading news commentator found immortality through drugs and started his own religious group: THE UNDEAD OF YOLMI (Cronk).
Still Man was indefatigable and, in some nooks and crannies of the Earth, survived. But there was no rule, no order; so anarchy ruled. Mankind regressed. But occasionally groups of young men (and women) would set out from crude tribal villages and search for lost knowledge and treasure while battling their plentiful foes. They became known as Adventurers. And thus . . .
